The Himalayas have some of the most beautiful walking country in the world and there are some walks that can be done in a shorter period of time and at a lower altitude than some of the classic routes.
Many of these walks traverse villages and farmland and pass schools and clinics, giving an insight into Nepalese life. Wherever you plan to walk it is essential to have the correct gear and recommended to walk with a guide for safety reasons. Areas that could be considered for shorter walks are around Jiri and Bhandar, or Lukla to Namche Bazaar. It is important to pace you and to acclimatise.
Enjoy the day to day scenery of Nepal as porters and yaks rush past you with loads, farmers carrying crops to sell at market, and women work in the fields. The warmth and hospitality of the Nepalese people is undoubtedly the best thing about walking in Nepal. The seasons bring rhododendrons in spring and all manner of alpine flowers whilst the crisp days of October are some of the most popular months for walking.
